Smore Rice Krispie Treats have the perfect blend of gooey marshmallow, crispy rice, and irresistible chocolate. Enjoy this delectable campfire classic in a convenient and mouthwatering bite-sized form.
Why you'll love this recipe
These treats combine the beloved flavors of a traditional s'more, which includes marshmallow, chocolate, and graham crackers, all in one bite. For me, they bring back lots of memories of camping and Girl Scout excursions!
Even better, S'more rice krispie treats capture the essence of a campfire treat but in a convenient, portable, and mess-free form, making them perfect for on-the-go snacking or dessert. They're a great alternative to cereal treats like scotcharoo bars or fruity pebbles treats.
Plus, you're not standing over a campfire to get the perfect toast on your marshmallow. Especially if it's December, wink wink.

- Cereal - brand names are Golden Grahams and Rice Krispies, but generic of boh of these works great.
Substitutions
- If using salted butter, omit the salt addition.
- Chocolate chips can be used in place of chocolate candy bars.
- If you don't have Golden Grahams cereal on hand, use crushed graham crackers, or honey flavored Teddy grahams in place of cereal.

How to make smore rice krispie treats
Tip: For less mess and easy removal, use a piece of parchment paper lightly sprayed with non-stick cooking spray to line the square pan.
Step #1: Heat a large pot on medium low heat. Melt butter, then add 8 cups of marshmallows.
Stir frequently until marshmallows have melted, about 5 minutes.
Step #2: Remove from heat, then stir in salt and vanilla.
Stir in cereals and remaining 2 cups of marshmallows.
Step #3: Working quickly, add half of the mixture to the prepared pan. Press lightly, with hands lightly sprayed with cooking spray.
Fill corners of pan and make an even layer. Place 9-12 chocolate bar pieces on top of cereal layer.
Step #4: Add remaining cereal mixture, pressing lightly to make an even layer. Top with another 9- 12 chocolate pieces, a few marshmallows, and a few golden graham cereal squares.
Let set for an hour until cutting the smore rice krispie treats into 12 squares.
Be careful to not press cereal mixture too much, this will create a dense treat and make them hard to bite into.
Variations
These treats can be customized with various add-ins like extra chocolate chips, caramel drizzle, or even a sprinkle of sea salt, allowing for personalization and catering to different taste preferences.
White chocolate smores: Make white chocolate smore treats by using white chocolate in place of regular milk chocolate.
Make peanut butter rice Krispies by using peanut butter chips in place of chocolate.
Cereal variations: Chex or Cinnamon Toast Crunch would work in place of the Golden Grahams. Also, any generic, off-brand cereal should work as well, as long as its fresh and not stale.

Recipe FAQ
Make sure you turn off the heat when you add your marshmallows to the butter or your marshmallows are gonna go rogue and turn into candy rocks. No one wants to eat super tough Rice Krispie treats.
Also use a gentle hand when pressing the mixture into the pan. We don't want to over compact these treats.
The short answer is, "nope". Old marshmallows won't melt properly and will be a gloopy mess. Use fresh marshmallows for the perfect bite.
