This Italian green beans recipe with tomatoes is the perfect way to mix up your dinner routine. These green beans with tomatoes (or haricots verts if you want to sound fancy) are fresh, flavorful, and perfect for any meal.
They’re super easy to make, so you’ll be able to whip up an easy green bean side dish in no time at all.

Why you'll love this recipe
One of the best things about summer is all the fresh produce that’s available.
I love going to the farmer’s market this time of year and stocking up on ripe tomatoes, crisp lettuce, and sweet berries.
But my absolute favorite summer vegetable is green beans. I can remember eating oven roasted green beans straight outta our backyard garden when I was a kid, and there’s nothing quite like the taste of freshly picked beans.
Of course, once you start growing your own green beans, it’s hard to know what to do with them all.
There are only so many times you can make a green bean casserole. This Italian dressing green beans dish is a delicious way to put those beans to use!
I know you’ll love this recipe! It’s just as home on a Tuesday night as it is served up at dinner parties or family gatherings.
Ingredients

- Fresh green beans – this is a great way to use green beans growing in your garden or if you have your own frozen green beans. And of course, you can throw them into your cart from the produce or frozen section of the grocery store.
- Italian seasoning – this herb blend usually mixes basil, oregano, and thyme. Instead of a store-bought mix, you could use my homemade Italian seasoning blend for fresher flavor.
- Italian dressing – I like to use the zesty kind, but any works great.
- Grape tomatoes – sweet, juicy, and perfect for pairing with these great beans.
- Parmesan cheese – a little sprinkle goes a long way!
Tip: Aldi has some fabulous whole green beans I always keep in my freezer, though I’m sure there are other brands that offer the same thing. The great part is that if you’re using frozen green beans, they’re already washed and trimmed for you!
Variations
- Want a little zip? Try sprinkling in some red pepper flakes or use a zesty style Italian dressing.
- Add cooked, chopped bacon — you can never go wrong when bacon’s in the picture!
Why Do Green Beans Have So Many Different Names?
It’s baffling, right? My husband calls all beans string beans. When I started gardening, people talked about pole beans. And then a variety of French beans is called haricots verts.
Basically, this Italian green beans recipe will work with everyday green beans, and you can even use flat Italian green beans, another variety that is, well… flat.
But we’re calling this recipe Italian green beans not because of the variety, but because of the seasoning.
How to Make Italian Green Beans with Tomatoes
Before you get started, wash and trim fresh beans using a sharp knife. Technically, you only need to trim the stem end, but I know some people really feel strongly about trimming both ends of their green beans. (Peterson family, I’m talking to you. 😉)

Tips and Tricks
Did you know you can easily freeze green beans? This easy green bean side dish is a great option to put them to use!
Keep the Italian dressing on the dinner table in case anyone wants to add more — it’s so good!
My kids prefer I leave their tomatoes uncooked and throw them in after it’s out of the oven. This works wonderfully for our family because people tend to be a bit opinionated about their food in this household.
Storage
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
