If there’s a dish that says "pull up a chair and stay awhile," it’s baked beans. Add smoky bacon, hearty ground beef, and the sweet tang of BBQ sauce, and you’ve got a potluck superstar that’ll disappear faster than you can say, “Who brought the beans?”
This is the kind of recipe that works for summer cookouts, church potlucks, harvest dinners, and—let’s be honest—those nights when you need something filling that doesn’t require a degree in culinary arts.
We also happen to raise a few beef cows, so in our kitchen, baked beans and ground beef are basically soulmates.

Why You'll Love This Recipe
It’s Tradition.
Here in the Midwest, baked beans are a thing. Like sweet corn in August or casseroles in a church basement, there’s an unspoken rule: you don’t show up empty-handed, and if you bring baked beans, you bring good baked beans.
It’s Ridiculously Easy.
Canned beans, browned beef, crispy bacon—no soaking beans overnight, no fancy ingredients. Just dump, stir, and let it simmer while you sip sweet tea.
It’s Stick-to-Your-Ribs Filling.
After a day of working cattle or chasing kids, you want something hearty. This delivers big flavor, protein, and fiber. Bonus: it pairs beautifully with pulled pork, grilled burgers, or pasta salad.

🛒 Ingredients
Here's what you'll need to grab from the grocery store.

- Cooked bacon - bacon in the oven, skillet, air fryer… just please, for the love of crispy goodness, don’t skip it.
- Ground beef - Lean is best, but drain well if you use higher fat.
- Baked beans - Grab your favorite canned variety: pork & beans, smoked, maple, or whatever makes you happy.
- BBQ sauce - Sweet, smoky, or sugar-free—your choice.
- Ketchup - Tang to balance the sweet.
- Light brown sugar - For a little extra caramelized goodness.
- Worcestershire sauce - Brings that mysterious savory “something” (also known as umami, which is waaaay easier to eat than pronounce).
- Garlic powder & onion powder - For flavor that says, I seasoned this on purpose.
See recipe card for quantities.
📋 Substitutions
Tomato sauce – Swap for ketchup to cut the sugar.
Different proteins – Ground turkey, chicken, or pork all work.
Veggies – Bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, or corn can be stirred in.

🥣 How to make baked beans with hamburger
Let's get cooking! Here's how I make these hamburger baked beans.

- Step 1: Brown the beef – In a Dutch oven, cook ground beef until no longer pink (about 5–7 minutes). Drain if needed.

- Step 2: Add the beans – Stir in canned baked beans.
- Then, add BBQ sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire, garlic powder, and onion powder.

- Step 3: Simmer & mingle – Let it all simmer 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

- Bacon time – Stir in crispy bacon right before serving (because soggy bacon is a crime).
freezer meal tip
Hamburger baked beans can also be made ahead of time and frozen for later. This is perfect if you're stocking up on your freezer meal stash for planting or harvest!
📖 Variations
