Spiced Pear Applesauce

Ingredients

  • 4 large apples cored and chopped
  • 2 large pears cored and chopped
  • ¼ cup apple juice
  • 2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1-2 Tablespoons maple syrup optional

Instructions

TO MAKE IN THE INSTANT POT

  • Combine the apples, pears, apple juice, ground cinnamon, and fresh lemon juice in your Instant Pot give it a stir to combine. Add the lid and lock it into place. Switch the vent to Sealing and set the “Manual” or Pressure Cook setting to 4 minutes.
  • When the cook time has completed, allow pressure to release naturally for 10 minutes, then manually release any remaining pressure by venting.
  • Let cool slightly and taste for sweetness. Add maple syrup to taste. Transfer the mixture to a food processor or blender and blend until smooth. You can also use an immersion blender for a chunkier style sauce.

TO MAKE IN THE SLOW COOKER

  • Combine the apples, pears, apple juice, ground cinnamon, and fresh lemon juice in your slow cooker and give it a stir to combine. Cover and cook on high for 4 hours, stirring once or twice.
  • Let cool slightly and taste for sweetness. Add maple syrup to taste. Transfer the mixture to a food processor or blender and blend until smooth. You can also use an immersion blender for a chunkier style sauce.

Notes

  1. If you don't have apple juice, you can substitute water.
  2. For added fiber (and to make it easier on yourself - because you deserve it!), don't peel the apples or pears before cooking. After you blend it all those bits will be blended it. This means more fiber and nutrition for everyone and you don't have to tell it's good for them!
  3. Pear applesauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 5-7 days. It may also be stored in a container and frozen up to three months.
