Homemade Italian Seasoning Substitute

This homemade Italian seasoning blend comes together in minutes with pantry staples, and it’s just as flavorful (if not more) than the store-bought kind.

Total Time5 minutes
Makes 9 Tablespoons

Ingredients

  • 2 Tablespoons dried oregano
  • 2 Tablespoons dried parsley
  • 2 Tablespoons dried basil
  • 1 Tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 Tablespoon dried rosemary
  • 1 Tablespoon dried majoram

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and stir to blend.
  • Store in an airtight container or spice jar for 12 months. I prefer to use glass containers.

Farm Girl Tips

Add 1-2 tablespoons to crushed tomatoes for easy sauce, sprinkle on frozen pizza, as a garlic bread topper. Also, use in any recipe that calls for Italian seasoning blend.
Variations:
For a little kick, add about 1⁄2 a teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes.
Add a teaspoon each of garlic powder and onion powder.
If you don't have marjoram, you can simply exclude it from the recipe. No need to replace it, you’ll just end up with only 8 Tablespoons of seasoning instead. This won’t ruin your Italian seasoning recipe.
